The Dynamic of Multi-dimensional Poverty in Cameroon: international Trade as an alternative solution to the fight against poverty

Despite all the efforts made by the government of Cameroon, poverty remains very present in the country. Many researchers have attempted to measure poverty and to identify its determinants in Cameroon. Few have made use of multidimensional indicators. Based on that, the aim of the study «The Dynamic of Multi-dimensional Poverty in Cameroon: international Trade as an alternative solution to the fight against poverty» by MAKOUDEM TENE Marienne, is twofold. First, it aims at analysing the dynamic of multidimensional poverty indicators in Cameroon using the Alkire and Foster indicators. Secondly, it looked at how Cameroon can leverage on international trade to fight against poverty, bearing in mind the potential of trade on an economy.

The study’s results showed that trade in total contributes significantly to reducing multidimensional poverty in Cameroon. Meanwhile, longer distance to the city Douala constitute the major constraint for rural poor to benefit from this positive trend.
